The Detroit Chinatown Vision Committee (DCVC) is a volunteer initiative devoted to developing the new Pan-Asian neighborhood surrounding the former Detroit Chinatown location on Cass and Peterboro. The plan will honor the history and contribution of Detroit’s Asian community and provide the amenities a thriving neighborhood requires.
The DCVC is a branch of the Friends and Family of Detroit Chinatown Project, led by: Stephanie Chang (1st Asian MI Senator), Gabrielle Santiago Romero (Detroit City Council) and Roland Hwang (Founder of American Citizens for Justice, ACJ). The ACJ was formed in 1982 as the first organization in the US to address racial violence outside of the black community, honoring Vincent Chin's death.
The DCVC's creation was sparked by the July 29, 2023 demolition of the iconic 140-year-old building at 3143 Cass Avenue. It was the location of the mass meeting that created the American Citizens for Justice and the home of the Chinese Merchants association (The Chamber of Commerce of the community).
By collaborating with existing residents and businesses, our community center will support the neighborhood to grow and flourish into a safe and walkable space.
Saturday, July 26 (12-8pm) at Peterboro and Cass.
Come for a variety of food vendors, neighborhood exhibit booths, art, activities and more!
